How to flash the bios for the X2 4400+? A puzzle...

Does anyone know if the DFI LanParty UT NF4 SLI-DR already comes with the BIOS to handle the AMD X2 chips? I heard it doesn't somewhere, but I'm not sure... it brings up an interesting question though... if not, how do you flash a BIOS to reconize the CPU when it doesn't... well, reconize the CPU?

Use an older single-core CPU (borrowing one if necessary), or I think most manufacturers will let you buy new BIOS chips (in case a BIOS flash kills the board), or I do think I read somewhere that even if the board's BIOS revision does not support dual-core, if you insert a dual-core chip, it will still work but it will appear and function as a single-core chip. If this is true you could just use the crippled dual-core chip to get online, download a BIOS update, and flash.

The latter was true in my case, and should apply to the OP as it's a quite recent DFI board.

Edit: Oh to answer the OP's second question - no DFI boards are being shipped with X2 aware bioses atm, you need at least bios 510, which is still technically in beta.

The machine should boot even if it does not recognize the CPU. It will probably work as a single-core CPU.

no, it won't boot without the proper CPU.

Just ask where you buy the motherboard if it's flashed so it can handle X2, they will give you the answer, and if it doesn't ask them to flash it. Simple as that.

It will work a single core cpu, and allow you to get the system operational in order to flash. Make SURE that you flash the bios, because a few boards run the X2's extremely slow until the bios is updated.

Ah ok, a few mixed replies. But velk you mean it ran with the dual core enough for you to flash the bios to version 510?

I think I'll try and ask the place I buy it from if they can flash it though, just to be extra safe. From pricegrabber.com it looks like most places have it for similar price, so there's plenty of choice.

i'd just have a floppy with the 5.10-2 bios ready to go and flash it right away.

do a search also as i know a few of the guys in cpu/oc'ing forum have the dfi nf4's with x2s and bought them together.

Actually, as I remember, the DFI would boot dual-core with 3-10 BIOS, but would need at least 5-10 beta to function properly.
The SLI-DR I got two months ago from MicroCenter came with 3-10 BIOS.
