how to fix wonky treo 650 power connection

I'm having a problem with my treo 650 where it only powers on if I wiggle the power cord a bit, and then it powers off immediately. so I infer that something or other is loose or broken that is preventing the thing from powering or charging. I've been having this problem for a while but it's only recently deteriorated to the point where the phone doesn't charge at all. is there some easy way to fix this before I junk it?
 
is there a good place online to learn how to do this? I opened up the phone and nothing appears to be obviously loose. when I plug it into a usb cable, the power light stays on consistently, but the battery still doesn't charge
