How to fix unresponsive script in Firefox 38.0.5

Hello guys,

Recently I'm receiving a lot of unresponsive script errors in Firefox 38.0.5.
Below is the entire error message:

A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, open the script in the debugger, or let the script continue.

Script: chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser:xml:2193

If i click stop script I won't be able to close the browser tabs.

I have tried various fixed from internet but none worked.
Could you please indicate a fix for this and what is causing it ?

I've seen this on occasion as well, sometimes when I'm on Facebook, it appears to take a while to generate ads / friend suggestions. Waiting longer usually doesn't help so I just stop it (and reload if I have to). Mozilla has a page about the error:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/warning-unresponsive-script

If I get the error again I'll try to debug exactly what's going on from the info though. Using some kind of javascript or ad blocker on those pages might help.

@ninaholic37: thank for your feedback. I've installed YesScript to see for what type of scripts this issue occurs and maybe I will be able to find a fix for it 🙂

Thanks.. someone just asked me about this so i'll try that out. Otherwise i'll make sure there's an adblocker installed.

I've experienced that the latest version of Flash Player is not necessarily compatible with Firefox on some sites such as uTube and say CNN News and had to uninstall the updated newer version of Flash and revert to an older version that works.

Add Blocker Plus loaded with Fanboy's Annoyance List and EasyPrivacy filters does rid CRAP but don't believe it is the reason why Firefox becomes unresponsive to some scripts as I blame it on Flash Player / Firefox compatibility.

It's always flash for me. I just never had java script tell the browser, "hey yo! I can't render man."

Flash just needs to die. I mean a lot of browsers render HTML5 already.

John - We tend to agree: but Flash does render H264/AAC FLV mp4 Video Streaming very well when it's working ;o)

Can't understand why there doesn't seem to be the same conflict between MS IE / Flash compared to Mazola Browsers!

Something STINKS and I believe who's getting the biggest share.

This might be true for me as well. I turn on Flash once in a while (not very often) to play the online game Guitar Flash on Facebook, and I think that's when I usually see the script error on other pages. I'm running an 11 year old CPU at 800mhz so things generally take a few seconds also which probably doesn't help. I thought about increasing the script timeout but it's kind of a rare occurrence so hasn't become enough of a nuisance to play with yet.
