How to fix this Klipsch speaker problem?

I've got a pair of the Klipsch 2.1 speakers. Over the past 6 months there is increasing static when turning the volume control. They work but it's really annoying. I've tried spraying contact cleaner in and around the control but it hasn't helped. When I take the speakers apart I can't get to the guts of the volume control and I don't want to ah heck anything up any worse than it is.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Gary

Yeah, I think that's dust in the pot inside the volume control. I used to rotate the volume knob left and right quickly to work that stuff out.

Nowadays though I just use the volume knob on the speakers to set the upper limit of noise level I want and do adjustments in software.
