How to fix this harddrive error?

I'm getting a registry error with my WD 120GB SE. I can't format it using WINXP because everytime it tries to search for a previous installation of windows, i get the BSOD with a 'registry error.' im on a different harddrive ATM and everything seems to be working fine(was able to get windows to install fine, too). I could, however, access the WD harddrive as a primary slave. Anyway to fix this error?

have you fdisk'd the hard drive?
