How to fix the Half-Life underwater "hall of mirrors" or "opaque blue" problem in D3D on GeForce 3?

Just wondering if anyone knows how to correct this problem. If I disable Fog Table Emulation in the Display Control Panel I get the "opaque blue" problem. If I enable Fog Table Emulation I get the "hall of mirrors" problem. I'm using the Detonator XP v23.11 drivers.

Only in HL? Any game which supports OpenGL will look superior using OpenGL.

Well, D3D has worked fine up until now (when I switched from a TNT2 Ultra to a GeForce 3), and my ONLY problem happens when I go underwater. I've never owned nor played Quake so I didn't know about it being an OpenGL game. I guess if there's no fix for this problem in D3D then I'll try running in OpenGL. Thanks!

You'll get higher FPS and it will run smoother in GL. :) You wont go back once you try it in GL!!!!
