How to fix stuttering in Age of Mythology?

I recently set up a new PC and haven't had many problems with it yet, but today I bought Age of Mythology and its stuttering quite a bit. About once a second it breifly freezes and makes the gameplay real choppy. However, the intro movie plays smoothly.

The only other game I've played on this PC is the ut2003 demo and it runs fine. It (ut2003) was causing reboots after 20 mins of play, but upping my CPU voltage to 1.7 solved that problem. I've tried changing a few settings but haven't upped the voltage again since I don't think thats the problem (but it could be I guess).

My system specs are as follows

AMD 2100 @ 2090 (190x11 1.7v) (~32C idle according to Asus Probe)
Asus A7N8X delux mobo
1 gig Corsair 2x512 3200LL
Saphire 9500pro
using onboard sound
WinXP pro sp1

I've run 3Dmark2001 and gotten 13200 with no hicups.

Anybody got any ideas whats causing the stuttering? Its quite anoying and makes the game unplayable for now.

You're overclocking and are wondering why you are having problems? Back it down incrementally until it runs stable.

Thanks for the reply, but thats not it. I've backed it down to below stock speed and it does the exact same thing.

and I'm using the cat 3.2 drivers for my video card.

Horay! I checked around on some AoM fan sites and finally found a suggestion that worked.

Once I set my APG aparture down to 32MB (it was at 128MB) everything worked fine.

Sort of odd if you ask me, but it worked.
