I've done this to two (2) monitors in the past. Threw the first away. Replaced it with a Packard Bell (shhh. quit laughing.) that was on sale at Best Buy that week. Promptly broke a pin on the D-shell of that one 13 months later (1 month out of warranty, imagine that). I took it in to a local PB repair facility. They kept it for 2 weeks before telling me they couldn't get the part (I guess a new cable) anywhere in the country. I didn't bother picking the thing back up, told them to just throw it in the dumpster out back.
So, I learned my lesson and only buy monitors that have a replaceable VGA cable on the back of em. Of course, that replacement monitor decided to develop a blue tint to it 18 months later that I couldn't figure out. That gave me a good excuse to finally move up to a 17" last year.
