How to find summer internships? Lack of good resources...

I'm a junior at RPI (c. Albany NY) studying IT, and I'm looking to find a decent summer job or internship in the computer industry (not getting real picky at this point). Unfortunately, I live in the Philadelphia region, so my school has few or no contacts in industry in my area, and I don't really want to work up in New York over the summer. Unfortunately, most of the Monster.com type sites list almost exclusively full-time jobs and those few that do get listed mostly end up with 'email-your-resume-and-we'll-never-get-back-to-you' type black holes. How have you guys gone about finding internships? I am at a loss and would appreciate any input.

I'm a science major so I can't give you any specific information but talking to my professors helped, they pointed to me to some institutions and places that some good ones. Also try talking to the department head and if your school has one the job office, ours also has info on internships. I also did a lot of random googling as well, I actually found mine that way.

Thanks for the input, but like I said, I go to school outside of Albany and live outside of Philadelphia. Unfortunately, that means I really don't have any connections in my home area and that's where I want to work. Unless I'm not looking hard enough, and most job offices at schools have listings not only in their area but throughout the country? I will definitely have to check up on that when I get back from spring break.

If you have any friends that go to school in the Philly area, you can ask them to check out the career center at their school. Or you might check some school's websites and see if they might have listings for local jobs or internships.
