how to find phone and address by driver's license #?

This morning I was pulling out of a bank driveway - sitting tight and waiting for the corsstraffic to pass. Then this guy driving vw jetta pulls in, slighly sideswipes my car and drives off to the drive-through atm. I get out, follow him and tell him he hit my car.

First he was all in denial, but when I said I was going to call police, he followed me to the car. He examined the damage and agreed it was his fault. The scratch is not very big, the plastic guard took most of it, but it's long and deep in one spot. I could probably buff it out, but if not - will have to call insurance and file claim.

This is where the bad part comes in - I took down his driver's license and car plate #, but did not copy down his address and phone numbers. My insurance agent tells me, just the license and plate are not enough.

Question is, how can I obtain his insurance information and stuff?

Thanks. Oh, and here are the pics.

Can you go to the DMV and file a request for information? I thought, driver's license and isurance info are public records.

You'll need to file a police report. With a license plate number, you can get an address. Once you have that, a visit from your Uncle Tony should get the cash in your hand tomorrow.

Unless you're a Law Enforcement Official more than likely you can't get that information. But if you talk to the police they may be able to do it for you, though not necessarily quickly. Your insurance agent may be able to speed things along as well.

I think you can do this (at least in California).

For about a hundred bucks a private dick can probably get you all the info you want. The problem is that, in the end, it will be his word against yours.

Suck it up. You got scrooged!

Well, can't blame the guy for hitting someone who posts a GIGANTIC picture.

Good luck with the insurance/police though.
