so, i had a domain name ( which i beleive i still own), but dont remember who the webhost was. i logged on to my ftp through my domain name, so i didnt really care much to remember who the actual host was, but now, i realized the site is down, and i dont know wtf is going on... is there a way to find out who my host is?

i thought a whois lookup just tells you who's your domain registrar and the registerer information?
how can yu tell who the actual web hosting company is?

it gives you the name servers

Which 95% of the time gives you the primary domain of the host

i figured the part about nameservers- but it is true, only 95% of the time. however two of my website are running on a custom DNS scheme, so when i ran a whois of them, the DNS info tells me nothing, no leads to my hosting provider...

I just use Netcraft. 90% of the time, the webhosting company is the netblock owner. If it is further delegated, then I will need to use 'whois'.

Received your PM, since I cannot reply I'll just post it here.

All I did was a simple whois lookup which shows your web host is HostPC.com

To get your web site back online helpdesk ticket with your domain and other pertinent details.

They did recently move data centers and you could have been affected. It could be as simple as logging in to NameCheap.com and updating your name servers. Submit a support ticket and ask them what's up.

You can check which host uses the IPs of those nameservers. Feel free to PM me your domain and I'll tell you who hosts it :p

rossman, thanks a ton. thats exactly what happened. apparently they migrated some servers, and i got dumped. i never received an email or anything- and that is some crap. now to update my account and get my site back online, they want my original bill- which was from like 6 months ago, and i had thrown away.

im getting screwwwwwwwed by hostpc.com

We've already moved your account to the new servers, and the new DNS information was sent to you earlier this morning to the e-mail address on file (@jorsm.com)

If this is an incorrect e-mail address, please let us know.

I don't see a current ticket for you in the helpdesk, so I'm not sure who asked you for a receipt, but I did address this issue first thing this morning with my staff.

Please let me know directly if you have any further questions.

Joe

Don't thank me.

Thank HostPC.com, next time you shouldn't jump to conclusions.

Are you able to login now?

Have you changed your DNS name servers with NameCheap.com?
