Google for 'codec', I've seen a site somewhere that has info on how to determine this. Like codecs.org or something...

A file may be able to be opened in VirtualDub to discover the codec used.

Other than DivX, the other likely suspects would prolly be Intel's Indeo (iv5setup.exe) and ATI's proprietary stuff which you can find via Google. MPEG-1 should be included with Windows and MPEG-2 with a DVD decoder or in a codec pack by the name of Nimo.
