Hi, I am really struggling to find motivation for study about technology, as I am doing Business Computing course, so I need to find motivation for studying harder and harder, to do well in the exams. I am also, learnibg Python, but I don't have motovation to continue, I keep procrastinating myself, and at the last moment I put hard work, but It's too late. Can somebody please help me, how can I really stop procrastinating myself and how to get motivated while studying more and more about technology? Thank you.

When I need to stop procrastinating and need to study, I drink lots of Red Bull because it gives me wiiiiiiiings.

But crystal meth also works, but there usually are negative consequences.

If you have to force yourself to study something (anything), it's probably not in your best interest to do so. Learning and motivation to study will come easier for fields you have an aptitude and natural interest in.

I know the feeling tbh. I used to be so enthusiastic about stuff like coding or learning new skills relating to tech and now days I have all these projects I want to do then never have the motivation to do them or learn how.

But once I actually push myself to actually start I can end up putting in countless hours and getting sucked in. I find it can take a long time to fall into that groove but once you get there it's almost an adrenaline rush once things are rolling. So just need to figure out how to get started and just do it.

That said if you are in school and just starting and already it's stuff you're not motivated about maybe consider if you are taking the right thing and if it's actually the field you want to work in.

Red Squirrel, I love Business Computing course, but I don't know why, I can't study for it, I don't get that spirit to start, I kept procrastinating myself knowing that the exam will be hard. I need to masterise Python by 1 month, in order to start the course, aswell as at the beginning, I will have an exam. I had been warned in February that I need to masterise Python, but from then till now, all I do is just watching TV, and that's it. Can you please give me some advice or motivation on how to get the spirit to start doing it? Thank you.

When it comes to studying specifically you basically need to accept "good enough" grades. I remember in college I had some classmates that were so obsessed with getting an A, they would spend hours upon hours studying. Meanwhile I would take half an hour to study and maybe not get as good of a grade, but I also did not stress as much over it. Some subjects are also harder than others because there's so much stuff to know by heart while others are more about whether or not you understand the concepts. I found Cisco was tough for that, so many lists to remember, and sometimes you get them confused. For example the OSI model, but then there was this other model that was similar to OSI. Then throw in other models in the mix too and it's just so many lists of things you have to actually remember for the test. I used to not do so well on the theory parts but then I would ace the hands on part where we had to actually configure routers etc as per instructions.

It seems highly unlikely that a novice will master, or even get a solid grip on the basics of Python in a month.

Yeah I took a 40+ hour course on python. But it's just impossible to absorb and remember all that info and become good at it, without actually putting it to use.

I need to actually get started on some of those projects... it's kind of a "side gig" they gave me at work to just learn it and code stuff that I feel can help the department. One of the things I want to do is interface with a serial modem and dial out and then parse out info from the monitoring systems. Lot of our existing systems don't show analog info like battery voltages or temperature so I want to code one that does.

Lost_in_the_HTTP, so should I give up, because to be honest, I found it difficult, I am learning about variable in Python and strings. Please be honest and harsh with me. Thank you

As an aside.... are we 100% convinced we have an actual new poster here as opposed to the "God-bot Python edition" ?!?

(because I'm not)

For me, motivation only comes when I've procrastinated so long that I physically feel pain from the boredom and the only relief is doing actual work to get my mind going.

Red Squirrel, is the 40 hours course free?

It was through work via Linkedin Learning (previously Lynda.com) so it was free for me. Might be something worth checking though.

It was basically a collection of 1-2 hour courses that started off from the basics and went to more advanced stuff. I'm not sure how much it costs out of pocket to get a subscription there but it might be worth it if you think you're going to use it. It beats trying to find info online through Google.

I'm just waiting for them to spam post a website where you can learn about python and say how it helped them so much.
