i have a light 16' aluminum extension ladder.

to reduce floor space, I want to hang it on my garage wall, which is made of drywall.

I plan to use a couple of these hooks:

.

it's rated for 20lbs (each).

A magnet will find the nails holding the drywall to the framing, that will be close enough. Or you can go old school and rap on the wall with a knuckle and listen for the change in pitch, that's how I've done it for years.

I have a $10 Black n decker and a Stanley, Both works great. I used it many times to hang shelves, my TV's..etc. Never missed a stud yet.
