A triage for me over the weekend:
Patient: "I'm sick"
Me: "Where are you sick @?"
Patient: "It's all in my records"
Me: "What records?"
Patient: "The ones they should have sent to you from XXX last week."
Me: "They sent records to the ER last week?"
Patient: "No, they sent them to THIS HOSPITAL!!!"
Me: "OK, we don't have your records in the ER tonight. What brings you here?"
Patient: "I hurt all over & my chest hurts"
Me: "Do you take medicine for your pain"
Patient: "Not anymore"
Me: "Why not?"
Patient: "Cuz this hospital won't give me any medicine"
Me: "When you did take medicine, what did you take?"
Patient: "I don't know"
@ this point, I look in the computer based records more closely, the guy missed his appointment in the clinics last week, is 35 years old, has no freaking idea what his medical diagnosis are, no idea (or wont tell me what they were).
I took him back in the furthest bed in the ER, did an EKG to make sure he wasn't dying form a heart attack, and ignored the prick for 2 hours, the physician saw him & told him to go home & keep his next scheduled appointment...
Tonight, I had to cut the ring off a quad (his hand had swollen 2X it's normal size, one of my idiot co-workers lost part of the Dremel tool look alike ring cutter, had the local fire dept bring me one of theirs & cut the poor souls ring in 2 places to get it off.
