How to extract instrumental track from karoake VCD?

I guess my friend needs it for something on Thursday...he says that a karoake VCD is comprised of two channels, left and right, and that one of them is the instrumental channel? How can I extract that one channel? He knows that he can just make it left/right balanced, but he needs both speakers to be playing or something...

Many thanks if you can help, I know I didn't explain it all that well.

You can do it with VirtualDub. Open the MPEG file and choose File>Save WAV. It will save both channels, but you might be able to separate it in the audio menu. Surely you can do it with another program.

Now that I read your post again, you can probably do what you want this way:

Open the big .dat file on the VCD in Windows Media Player 6.4. If you have the right codecs, you can go to File>Properties>Advanced>MPEG Audio Decoder and choose which channel to play. It will play it in both speakers.
