How to explain distributed computing?

I need to get a relatively simple Distributed Computing explanation for my superintendent, because I want to get our ~150 brand new computers doing something during the day 🙂 I think were going to go with Popular Power, because its figuring out the flu thing 🙂 Any suggestions?

The Distributed.net client is a more tried and true option. Be careful about what you are running at work.

You definately don't want to do anything that would introduce instability to the computers. I agree with KingHam, RC5 is a better, if less exciting option.

I spent alot of time looking at an angle for running clients on work computers, if you use the stats, proxy and client logs they are great root troubleshooting tools. I found the RC5 client to be very tried and true with only 1 problem out of 57 PC's. I had a problem running Easy CD Creator on a box with the client running. Luckily there is an option to have the client pause when a certian program runs!🙂

I agree with the other posts, be carefull what you run on other peoples PCs. The RC5 client has been around a long time and is well documented.

Good luck with the assimilation!

Remember that the client will also run OGR, this maybe more usefull in some peeps eyes than RC5 🙂
