hould be more obvious, but when I open start menu in XP, i need to click some arrow to expand that to show all the programs.

Can't recall how do I shut that off so all menus are always expanded?

If you are using the Classic Start Menu, go to Taskbar and Start Menu in Control Panel and click the Customize button in the Start Menu tab. Scroll down the list of options until you see "Use Personalized Menus". Uncheck this option.
