i would like to exchange transfer files via the internet between my work PC and my home PC. nothing more complicated than that. my work PC is on 24/7.

i tried using ICQ and AIM to send/exchange files but those programs give me messages like "unable to establish direct connection". i dont think it is a firewall issue because sometime AIM works and sometimes it doesnt. ICQ never works.

can any recommend a good file-sharing program (or free service).

thanks!

Have you tried setting up an ftp server? You could run a simple FTP server (bullet FTP (not free), warFTP (free)) on your home and work computer, and then connect with a FTP client (cute FTP, leech FTP) to the other when needed. You would only have to download an upload via IP addresses.

Get Laplink. I'm constantly moving files between the office & home computers as well as synching. Mine is set up to connect directly (computer to computer) but, if I recall correctly, you have a choice between a direct connect or via internet.

edit: Just checked, it does give you the choice.

Not really, you set-up your own user name and password, and give yourself rights to the files you want. You can deny anonymous login, so the only person who gets in is you (with your password). You are the only one who knows about the FTP server, so you are the only who tries to connect.
