How to encode/compress multiple videos at once?

I have a good bunch of AVI (MJPEG codec) videos that I need to compress/encode to a Divx format (they're smaller sized files, and look the same), as Vegas is not recognizing the original files (it recognizes the divx files, though). I've done everything I can, but nothing besides re-encoding the videos solved the problem.

So far, I've been using VirtualDub to re-encode/compress each video one by one. It's very annoying and time consuming, and I'd like to just get all of the videos done one after the other (automatically)...likely over a period of time where I will not use the computer, so I can come back and have everything ready to use.

Is there anything, or any way with VD, that can re-encode all of my videos without me having to sit through each one and set it up for each one? (There are many short videos, so it's a real pain)

i think a program (freeware) called SUPER can do batch encoding but I've never tried it

I don't know whether the "batch conversion" feature here means simultaneous conversions of multiple files, or maybe sequential conversions of one at a time in a chain.

I've never had occasion to use that feature.

Might be something to look at: Batch conversion feature.

Alive Video Converter It can do batch encoding it is small program that wont eat up your system resource and it will convert to many format include divx but it will not do realplayer format. It is not free but it is worth it.
