How To Enable The Linux Bash Shell In Windows 10

Windows 10 allows the users to run a special version of Bash shell on their system. Using the Linux bash shell, the users can navigate through the file system and also run different Linux command line apps and also perform tweaks. By default, the Linux bash feature will not be turned on in your Windows 10 system. Here is how you enable the Linux bash shell in your system.

Step 1
Select ‘Settings’ Option

Firstly, click the start windows icon as marked in the below image. Then the user must select the ‘Settings’ option to view all the device related settings.

Step 2
Select ‘Updates & Security’

In the settings window, you will find different setting options related to system, devices, security accounts, language, etc. Here the user must click the ‘Updates & Security’ option.

Step 3
Click ‘For Developers’ Option

In the updates & security settings option, the user must click the ‘For developers’ option that is present in the left side of the window as shown below.

Step 4
Select the ‘Developer Mode’

On clicking the for developer option, you will find different user developer features as shown below. Click the ‘Developer mode’ option to turn on this feature.

Click the ‘Yes’ Button

User must click the ‘Yes’ button to run on the developer mode that would help in installing apps from outside the Windows Store.

Step 6
Click ‘Control Panel’ Option

User must now click the cortana search icon as shown below. Then search and click the ‘Control Panel’ option to view the complete settings and controlling operations of the Window 10 system.

Step 7
Select the ‘Programs and Features’ Option

You will find many computer setting options in the 'Control Panel'. User must now click the ‘Programs’ and choose ‘Programs and Features’ option.

Step 8
Click the ‘Turn Windows feature on or off’ Link

In the Programs and Features window, the user must click the ‘Turn Windows on or off feature’ link as shown below.

Step 9
Click ‘Windows Subsystem for Linux (Beta)’ option

In the windows feature window, use should scroll down to find the Linux option. You must enable the Linux subsystem option by clicking ‘Windows Subsystem for Linux(Beta) option’

Step 10
Restart the System

User must now click the ‘Restart now’ button to reinstall the Windows 10 system.

Select ‘Bash on Ubuntu on Windows’ Option

Click the 'Start Windows' icon. Scroll down the option and select the ‘Bash on Ubuntu on Windows’ option as shown below.

You can now easily enable the Linux bash shell in your Windows 10 system by following the above steps.
