How to enable Sm3 on FEAR?

Yeah, just played it. Just to let everyone know, it runs GREAT at 10x7 with medium/high settings. I dont even have over 512mb ram! Still there is some stuttering, but hey, I'm used to 30fps and stuttering so it's all good for me, but sorry if "running great" to you means 60fps.

Oh well.

I was just wondering, I know you can run the game in SM3, but does it do it automatically or not? Is there a setting for it? Something I have to change/edit/etc in the files?

Just wondering. I'd like to use it if possible.

I didn't see one...I'm assuming you use something like fraps to get the average FPS? I dont know, i've never benchmarked, but i certainly will if i can test it on Sm2/3 to compare.

I can't bench for a few days...going to cedar point. but i certainly will when i get back, assuming i find out how to switch between sm2 and 3

I think there is only an option to turn it off. And that would be running in the DX8 path option they have available.

Ah, so I'm assuming its an automatic thing?

I'd like to run it in SM2, maybe lower, and SM3 (and know that I am running the different SMs) for benchmarking.

bump?

I think it would benefit people *cough* to have *MUNKY!* Sm2 vs SM3 with the 6 series cards. It'd be great if everyone chipped in *cough* and gave their own benchies. I'm guessing theres a way to average the FPS while playing the demo? hopefully no one stands in one spot for 3 hours to raise the average. (I'm thinking I should have synced the coughing and munky part...no?)

Because how often are you going to run a perfect benchmark thing every game play time? no, it flucuates as you play differently. So in a way, this would be a good way to judge real performance. Eh?

Tell me if you get any news on how to enable shaders...Ima look on google...

Hey, I'm certainly thinking about benching this game as well. Maybe there's some program that can force a certain shader model on the nvidia cards. I know in ati tray tools, there's an option, but my choices only go from 1.0 to 2.1, and I havent tried it either. It would also be nice if we could record a demo while playing, and then run it as a timedemo, so we get an accurate benchmark.

Yup, i'm glad we're agreeing on something :D

Um, I found a tweak guide for the demo, which i could put up here, but it doesnt seem to have anything for shader models other than dx8 and dx9 (which im assuming if you put it on dx9, it automatically uses sm3 if you have it).

How do you record videos to run a timedemo anyways?

Do ATi cards run it in SM2? Well then why not try changing your 6 series card to show up in riva as an ATi device. I have read instructions on doing this somewhere or another. I think it was related to Farcry or HL2 banding on specular lighting and that changing device ids fixed it.

I dont know if you can record demos in the "demo" game, but I posted a benchmarking thread that you manually run through the first level and that should give us at least some idea of how this game runs.

Im too lazy to download has anyone tried changing device ids and looking for a difference in benchmarks?

EDIT: Rollo? :p

get sum more ram,, 1gig is required to stop those stutters,, it's called texture thrashing, that's what ur experienceing.
