How to enable PS 3.0

I have a Geforce 6800GT and was wondering how to enable the new 3.0 shaders. I'm using the latest offical Nvidia drivers (61.77) and installed DirectX 9.0c. Anything else I need to do? Is there a way to find out it it's working correctly? I do have Far Cry and heard the 1.2 patch enables the new shaders. Is this correct? Thanks.
 
There isnt a secret to enabling it. Games that support it will use it.

The 1.2 patch that enables it in Farcry was recalled, but if you can get your hands on it, you have to add -DEVMODE "r_sm30path 1" to the Start in field when you select the properties of the Farcry shortcut. So, you must right click on the shortcut to Farcry, presumably in your start menu and in the "Start in" field, have something like:
"C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Crytek\Far Cry\Bin32\FarCry.exe" -DEVMODE "r_sm30path 1"

I added that extention to the Start field, and now there is yellow text on the top of the game screen saying SM 30 BETA or something to that effect. Is there a way to get rid of this, or will I have to live with this if I want SM 3.0 enabled in Far Cry?
 
You don't need the DEVMODE line, all it does is allow cheats and show list of all levels in the "Campaign" menu, which is annoying if you just want the default list of your own saved games. All you really NEED to enable SM3.0 is the "r_sm30path 1" line.
 
Erwright- I had tried that when I was first setting up Farcry to work with SM3.0, but it didn't work. I very well may have done something wrong when attempting it though, so I'll try it again sometime. Thanks 🙂
