How to enable per-application settings in ATI Catalyst?

I've been a long-time nvidia user but recently made the jump to ATI with the X1950 XT. While the cards performance is great, I'm less than impressed with the driver interface though. In the nvidia driver it was very easy to specify that settings like AA and AF should be forced in a certain application via profiles. The ATI CCC has profiles also but I can't understand how it works. After creating a profile I don't know if the changes I make in CCC are universal or specific to that profile; it is very confusing because there is no way to tell if the particular profile is activated and changes made won't effect the universal settings.

To top off the confusion the ATI documentation is less than impressive. The help file seems to have been written by a summer intern, with the sparse descriptions of options.

May I suggest using Omega Drivers instead? They ditch the pointless and crappy CCC and install ATI Tray Tools from which its very easy to controll all 3D options (including overclocking), they include the regular ATI control panel options which are much easier to use.

And on top of all of that, omega drivers are optimized and do seem a little faster on some games, I just can't go back to using regular ATI (well I am using them on Vista but since I don't game here its not much of an issue)

Screw Catalyst Control Center man.

Do yourself a favor and use ATi Tray Tools instead (you'll set your custom profiles for specific games much faster, it's easier and more user friendly, the interface is right to the point, no hassles, negligible amount of resources needed, more responsive ... and so on). Don't forget to un-install your CCC before installing ATT (you don't need to completely un-install the display drivers, just un-install Catalyst Control Center separately). You'll thank me and yourself later.

Got there for more information about it if you're new around with ATi. Using ATi Tray Tools instead of CCC is a lesson learned by most ATi consumers around: http://forums.guru3d.com/forumdisplay.php?f=33
