How to Enable or Disable the Use of the Camera in Mac OS X

The users might sometimes want to disable the use of camera while performing some actions in their Mac OS X system. Mac ensures that the users have the complete ability to enable or disable the built-in camera whenever required. This can be performed by modifying the camera settings in the parental control system preference. Here is how you can enable or disable the use of the camera in the Mac OS X system.

Step 1
Select the ‘Apple Icon’
The first step is to click on the small ‘Apple Icon’ that is present at the top left of your Mac screen as shown below. On clicking this, you will find a series of system setting options.

Select ‘System Preferences’
From this list, select ‘System Preferences’ option to view all kinds of system related settings for the Mac OS X system.

Select ‘Parental Controls’
In the System Preferences window, select the ‘Parental Controls’ option to view and modify the settings related to the controls of your Mac OS X system.

Select the ‘Lock Icon’
Now, select the ‘Lock Icon’ to get access to modify the parental control settings of your Mac system. This ensures that the parental control settings get accessed by only authenticated users.

Select ‘Unlock’
Now, type the correct 'Username' and the 'Password' to unlock the parental control preferences. After entering the credentials correctly, you need to click on the ‘Unlock’ button.

Select the ‘User Account’
In the parental controls window, you need to select the correct user account in the left pane of the window.

Select ‘Others’ Tab
Now, select the ‘Others’ tab. On clicking this tab, you will notice a different list of options related to the enabling and disabling of system functionalities like dictation, camera and printer features, etc.

Click the Checkbox for ‘Disable Built-in Camera’
You can now click the checkbox of ‘Disable Built-in Camera’ option to disable the use of camera and uncheck the box for enabling the use of the camera in your Mac OS X system.
