How to edit a PDF?

A job application that I am looking at is in PDF format. They say to print it out and fill it out by hand or type. But I don't have a typewriter. So is there a way that I can fill in the lines with a text tool? I have the pro version of acrobat 6.0 and I can edit it. But when I do the under line is gone and the page shifts. Is there a way that I can type over the PDF, preserving the format?

Thanks

if you're real desperate you can use a graphics program like paint shop to fill it in with 😀

edit: oops, just now I noticed "preserving the format..." hmm

then they can see he cant write!

here is a long shot
print it out, scan it in, open in photoshop, fill it out, print again

You can use printscreen and paste it to a picture editor.

But I would go with notfred's suggestion.

With the pro version of Acrobat 6 you can save the PDF as a JPG or other format. Or you can use the text box tool and create your own forms in the places where you need them.

Full Acrobat works - 6 or 7 now. But there is another way - much cheaper. Just convert the PDF file to a Word .DOC and use your word processor.
