I have a friend with a new kodak digital camera and it will not work with win 2000. It will with 98, xp, me, but not 2000 and there isnt a patch that i know of. He has 2000 now and wants to put 98 (b/c i have it and we dont want to spend any more $$$) on his pc so he could choose to use 98 when he wants to use the camera. Anyone wanna tell me how its done?

Win98 install can be simple or tricky, depending on how the drive is configured at present. Might be simpler to get a compact flash card reader - they connect to a USB port via a cable, and all the ones that I've seen have w2k drivers. Cost is generally about 20 - 25 dollars. Take the memory card out of the camera, stick it in the reader, transfer the picture files. There are many programs that will then convert Kodak format to .jpg or .tiff or .bmp or whatever you want.

best for him to make at least two partitions on his hdd. install win98 on C & then install WIN2K on any other partition. you can install win98 after win2k is installed using setup.exe /ntldr but there's no guarantee that it will install correctly for dual booting!

As long as the boot loader for Win2k is on the C:\ partition, you're good to go.

<< yes 2k must go first then 98 >>

Wrong.
It's always best to install the earlier OS first, then the newer one. Follow that rule with any Windows dual boot/tripleboot/etc situation.

There is a way to do 98 after 2k has been installed. I have tested it out and it's a pain in the a$$ and I have questions about the stability.

you need to edit the boot.ini file!

There is no boot.ini found!! Could not located. Could be named differently under w2k?

Right click my computer,
Select Properties
Select the Advanced Tab
Select the Start-up and Recovery button
On this screen there is a button that allows you to edit boot.ini

It has to be there if you are dual booting.

Saltin,

Followed your instruction, still don't see any button to edit boot.ini, did see the choices of selecting which OS as default to boot and display time. Could you please see on your machine if there is a button to edit boot.ini? Thanks.

You can also do a dual boot through BootMagic instead of Win 2k. Then it shouldn't matter what order you load the programs. I have 2 versions of 98 (English and Korean) and Win 2k set up that way on my machine.
