How to dual boot win2000 pro on an existing 1 HD winxp pro installation?

Is there a way to do this? I have a program that needs to run on win2000 (even though it will most likely run fine on winxp it is not supported by the manufacturer).

My system currently has a 120GB HD with 2 partitions. I want to install win2000 on the other partition and dual boot, but when I insert my win2000 cd it says the current version of windows is newer than the one on the disk and won't allow for installation. Can I do this, or am I SOL? Is it going to require putting in another HD and booting to the other HD using the bios?

Help please.

You should be able to do this a number of ways. Before attempting to set up the system as dual boot, try using the compatibility mode feature of WinXP. Install the program, then right-click on the shortcut and go to properties. There will be a compatibility tab and you can select Win2K from there.

Installing Win2K AFTER WinXP is possible. The Win2K CD should be bootable. Insert the CD before booting/rebooting and you should be prompted to install. Install to a directory on the second partition or to a different directory on the primary partition (totally your preference on this one). After all is said and done, you may need to edit the boot.ini file to present the WinXP partition as an option. I've usually done it installing 2K first, followed by XP.
