I have the system as listed in my signature.

I have 2 20gig drives and 1 10. The 10 is for storage and one 20 has Win 98SE with all my apps and games. I want to install Win 2000SP1 without killing my current Win 98SE setup.

Should I just install Win 2000 on the empty 20gig and swap them when I want to chage? I don't want to have to open my case and switch cables everytime I need to switch.

anyone have a good solution for this?

Thanks,

Install Win2000 to a different partition/drive it will automatically set up a dual boot when it detects Win98 there.

Don't do any drive swapping, let Win98 be C:

One thing though. When I installed Win2k I had the 98 drive out. Will it still try to Dual boot? Or at least give me the menu?

Thanks man ...

correct.

Now ... How should I pin the drives. Make the Win 98SE machine MASTER and make the Win2k Drive slave?

Also .... I Win2k Setup keeps crashing half way through, then want's to restart, has done it 3 times.

Leave both of them hooked up, put the 98 as the master drive so it will boot from it first.

Boot into 98 and get it running. Put the 2000 disk in. It'll ask if you want to upgrade your current Windows or do a clean install. Pick clean install. One of the following pages gives some options - look through them, one of them is "let me choose what partition to use"

Let it run - it will reboot and give you those options. Point it to what drive you want and let it rip.

You must leave the 98 drive hooked up. It will go there to see the dual boot option, which will forward it deeper into that drive for 98 or over to the other for 2000. If you remove that first drive, it won't boot, as the 2000 drive has program files only on it.

Thanks for the input.

I am trying again cause it keeps stopping at the 'Setting up components" section.

I think maybe it's cause I had my NIC and Sound card Hooked up. I am gonna try to Clean install it with nohting but Video.

Should the partition be any certain size? Cause I have been leaing it at the full 19 gigs?

....

It did it again!

It get's to "Distributed Transaction ..." after copying and it reboots ... only to restart the setup.

What am I doing wrong? We just built another machine on the same Mobo ...
