The seven volt trick is easy. There are three wires: a 12 volt, a 7 volt and a ground wire. I forgot what color is which. Just use a volt meter to find the correct one. I had a Delta fan turning 6800 RPM and put the 7 volt wire in the place of the 12 volt line conection to fan. Using seven volts dropped RMP to 4500 -- too low. Suggest placing different resistors in 12 volt line to drop voltage. Settled on 5 ohms which dropped RMP to 6200. Also; try using spacers between HS and fan. Between 1/8 and 1/4 inch shoud be correct. A lot of the time the fan is in "dirty air" due to nearness of fan and HS. My RPM dropped another 200 RPM!! The scream was gone and because the fan slowed down (loaded up) it was pushing more air without the excess noise!!!!
Try it -- good luck.
