Hi,

I have an old PPro 200 with 96MB Ram. I was wondering how I load it up with a lot of storage capacity.

Should I do several HD's on the same IDE channel?

Yes you should. However your BIOS will have problems, the so called 8.4GB limitation. You'll need to set it up
using special software. Maxtor for instance supplies software like this, you may download it off their site.

To be honest with you what are you trying to use it for? That machine is a bit old for effective disk performance
really, you'll need a PCI ATA/100 controller too really.

Try and look for a dual Pentium II 450 or so system on the net or somewhere. That will have ATA/33 at least and besides
the disk performance will be much better due to 512K cache at 225MHz.

It's upto you but that's my spill. I take it this is going to be some kind of file server?

I'm trying to convert my whole audio library (vinyl, mp3, cds, tapes) and stuff to mp3 (at around 192Kb) and I already have around 60gigs on my new machine.

I just need the old maching for storage. I have both machines networked at 100Mbits so I assume the ppro 200 would be enough.

Can I just add the ATA 100 controller to the board? Is there any minimum requirement to do this?

yah, should work fine

ppro could handle more users than just yerself if you needed it to.
i wouldn't record tapes at 192 kbps, kinda a waste of disk space.
