How to do I change the PCIe bus speed?

I noticed that my 7900gs is running at 8x speed. How do I changed it so it run at 16x?

Sounds like you may need to change the setting in the BIOS.

What kind of board. There are a couple of boards (Asrock for example) that don't have 16X PCIe.

8x isn't going to make a noticeable difference with that card. You would need a G80 to even show a small improvement from 16x PCI-E.
