How to disassemble Seagate external hard drive?

I have an external Seagate hard drive and the power supply died. I want to remove the hard drive from the case so I can keep using the drive, but I cannot seem to find a way to remove the case. There are no screws. It seems like the case should be able to split apart but there are some plastic catches somewhere that I can't seem to find.

Does anyone have any information about how to remove the shell?

Thanks!

you will probably break a few of the tabs/catches while doing this so the shell may be no good, but sounds like you only want the hd.

Look carefully along the joints for small openings, sometimes those are where you can insert a small flatblade screwdriver to start prying it apart. also take the same small screwdriver and start at some place on the case at the joints and see if you can pry one side away from the other to see where the tabs/catches are. You will have to explore to figure out your case. also on the bottom see if any labels there are covering screw holes - another trick they do. if you see a label that says this will void the warrenty if removed, that is a huge clue that label is covering a screw

Hammer. Buy another ext. case.

That's why I don't even look at packaged external drives. Gotta have something to use my upgraded ones with. 🙂

Seriously - the Seagate shell is plastic hooks and tabs - sort of an interlocking puzzle, but I don't remember what end to start on. But, since the PSU is hosed, cracking like an egg is probably the way to go. Insert the blade of a screwdiver in a crack and twist.

I haven't seen one in person but I would be willing to bet the shell is like some of those netopia routers that were put together all funky. Shouldn't be too hard to crack open but do remember there's a hard drive in there so going postal with an axe handle and sickle will probably do the drive in good!
