I have a phoneline setup, but I can't log in to my win2k system because everytime it asks for a password? how to disable it? the win2k works great I have internet, and i can see all other computer, however I can't log in to the win2k machine?

setup a user profile which is the same name as the user loggon on the other machine and set the password to never expire... that should do the trick if you need more help just post...

SocrPlyr has it right. Create an account on the Windows 2000 machine with the same name that is logging into the client machine. Set it to have no password. It should then work.

NOOOO. I want to access the win2k machine from my win98se machine, but I can't. It keeps asking me for a ipc$ password?

i knwo what you are trying to do... set the username and password (for that username) to the same thing that you log onto the win98 box w/ it has to be exactly the same i am pretty sure... if you aren't sure of it yourself log out on ur 98 box and log in w/ a new one...

nope sry not shortcut... it is a part of the win2k security

1. go to the control panel on the win2k machine
2. go to Users and Passwords
3. add a user (call it "remote" [really anything u want...] and leave the password blank all the rest of the preset settings should be fine)
4. click the advanced tab and click the advanced button
5. click on the users folder and double click on "remote" [or whatever you called it]
6. check the password never expires box
7. say ok close that window and the control panel
8. now go to the win98 box and log off whatever user you are on as (should be an icon on the start menu)
9. log on as remote [or whatever you called it] w/ a blank password
10. go to network neighborhood to make sure it worked

that should be it
let me know how it works

thanx it worked to log in, but now there are no folders shared? I went to each partition in WIN2K machine and set it to share. Anything else I should do?

go into your share properties and click permissions and add... then add the loggon that you created ["remote"...?]

it tells me it locked by the admistrator priveldge. How do I go about it?
I logged in as the administrator and still nothing.

ok try this
go into the control panel
Users and Passwords
double click on "remote"
group membership tab
change it to other: Administrator

that should do the trick

I didn't but I'm gonna continue tommorow. Listen man thank you so much. You really helped me alot.

kay no prob... just let me know if you finally get it working... i am pretty sure that last thing should have done it (i think you just didn't have the "priviledges to see what you were sharing...) good luck and i'll check back tomorrow
(i needed to go to bed... i have a race tomorrow... @ like 8.30... whoops hehe... later)
