How to disable vsync for nvidia GeForce4MX440?

Hi guys,
My dad has a system with an Abit Siluro GF4MX440 64MB card, and the Detonator 30.82 drivers. When I play Q3A on his system, I am capped by the refresh rate at whatever resolution I try. I disabled sync to refresh in the game options in game menu, and also put vsync to "Always Off" in the OpenGL menu in Additional Properties, but this still happens.

The funny thing is, it only happens when I enable 2X or Quincunx FSAA, and doesn't happen when I either disable FSAA altogether or enable 4XFSAA, I didn't try 4XS since its for D3D only. What's up with that? How do I disable vsync in Quincunx FSAA(which is what I use)

I tried the nvidia 60hz refresh rate fix, but that only raised my refresh rate to the max my monitor supported at each resolution(75hz at 1024x768, the resolution I play at)...I'm still capped by that refresh rate.

Please help...I'm stumped!

If you do not have "coolbits" installed then you will have the same problem. If you do, then there is another place to look. It is in the "direct 3D settings" tab then in your "more direct 3D" tab. look halfway down and TaDa, there it is! Turn that Muther off! This will help you. Hope this helps!

:D  ;)

BTW, This is in your 'Properties setion of your Video card. there are 2 places in there to turn the vsync off so look carefully!

I didn't enable coolbits. I did get nvhardpage in order to get the overclocking sub-menu to appear in the drivers. Anyways, Q3A is an OpenGL game, not D3D, so I'm not sure if disablying vsync in the D3D menu would help it or not. As I mentioned I did disable it in the OpenGL menu.

Woah, this is my 3000th post!

I just checked my video driver control panel, and there is a "More D3D" sub-menu, so I guess nvhardpage did enable CoolBits. I set the vsync mode to "Always Off" there too, but still no difference, not that I expect any since that's for D3D and Q3A is OGL...

Any other thoughts?

Disabling vsync in the OpenGL driver control panel should work just fine. Do you have problems in other OpenGL games?

Check the r_swapinterval setting in Quake3 and make sure it's set to 0.

granted its all rather pointless as you dont need anymore fps than your monitors refresh rate anyway. i supose its good for screen tearing if you are into ugly graphics though.

lol BFG10K, i made that post before i even saw the other topic :)

but taken from the dissusion there i should add that some people do not notice screen tearing but do notice the chopyness of low fps, in wich case vsync is beter left off. i never realy understood that and still realy dont but i supose that could be becuase personaly 40fps is just fine but any screen tearing at all drives me totaly mad.

Well, I don't really mind 60fps, anyway I don't play on that system, its my dad's, but I'd like to benchmark Q3A and the 60fps cap isn't helping me at all.I'll check on the r_swapinterval setting. I don't have any other OGL game currently installed in that system but I guess I could try rtcw, even though that'll probably run below 60fps on that system most of the time with the settings I prefer.
