How to disable the Recent folder in XP's Open dialog box?

Sometimes I accidentally click on the "Recent" folder when I go to open a file under XP. It usually freezes up my comp for a bit while it searches for all the recent files. How can I disable that folder so that it just starts up with My Documents or My Computer?

As long as this system is not a domain member I'd say the easy way to do this, and to get a handle on a lot of other useful cutomizations of the OS, would be to install the TweakUI PowerToy. There's a Common Dialogs / Places Bar setup in there that lets you customize the Open/Save dialog pretty nicely.

It's listed here, on this page.

Right click on "Start".
Click on "Properties".
Click on "Customize".
Select the "Advanced" tab.
Uncheck "List my most recently opened documents".
Click "OK".
Click "OK".
Done!
