Guys, I guess someone may asked this question before, (yes, I did the search), but here goes:
I am really annoyed by those auto pop-up ad sceens when you go to some web sites, and if you close it it will re-spawn a new one out. It's hard for me to kill it on time, since I am using DSL. How do I disable it for good?

Disable javascript 😀

I think there's a key command.. alt-f4 perhaps? Some f key kills windows right away. Stay away from porn sites also.

Yeah, porn sites used to do that alot, but nowadays more sites are doing this too. Sad.

Where do I disable javascript?

I was kinda kidding about the JS since a lot of sites use it for standard navigation..

But you can probably do it from tools - internet options - advanced.

ddiccico,
Could you give me the exact name for this kind of tool?
I serched on cnet downloads, but can not find anything like atguard.
Thanks!

I saw some freeware touted on the screensavers on techtv. it was a couple days ago. I think the name was 'pop up killer' or something close to that.

Ok open up you IE go to tools > internet options > security > custome level its the 4th one up from the end and set it to disable java scripting, after that best to restart your browser.

only problems is somes sites won't work to well when its disabled

I downloaded the pop killer, and yes, it works very well!
I just hate those auto pop up screens! Seems every web sites got infested with this method - even cnn.com. Will those pop up screen with ads on it actually earn the web site some money? Well if they do, I pity those web sites.

Thanks for all the posts, and now I can browse in peace.

I must be doing something wrong. I've tried pop-up-killer and it didn't work. I downloaded the list of sites to kill from their site. I also set my max number of browsers to 4 and I still get a crapload of pop ups.

Did you right click the tray icon and go to Preferences, then check the Detection section and try marking "Smart". Once I did this never had a problem. I take that back (and this is not PopUp Killer's fault) sometimes a web page will pop up some kind of warning like "enable cookies if you want to proceed" or something like that. So be aware of it and when you really see what's going on right click the tray icon and temporarily disable. Remember to re enable it when your done.
