Did you check in the bios? Those settings are usually there.

I've got an I7500, here's how I can do it:

1)Right-click on desktop, choose "properties>screensaver>power>Intel Speedstep Technology".

2)Uncheck the box that says "Automatically change performance when the power source changes".

3)Click "apply".

...you're done, no more Speedstep.

You need to change the power profile to ALWAYS ON for maximum performance 24/7

I did the BIOS stuff to no avail

It kept registering as a 800 MHz CPU on benchmarks, BUT I got the highest scores on 3dmark2001 by running FULL power management stuff - SpeedStep, Smart CPU, etc...

I got the lowest score with 1200 MHz. I got the highest at 796 MHz, which tells me that the SpeedStep thing works as advertised. You get longer battery life and it gives you max power when you need it.

Millenium: Do BOTH of your rear cooling fans turn on? My Inspiron 8100 only turns on one fan.
