is there a way to disable it from loading?

it seems microsoft has maliciously installed code on the web page to launch their program without my consent.

whos going to be the first to exploit this for other apps?

If you have WinXP Pro, you can disable it using the local group policy. Start > Run > gpedit.msc, drill down to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Messenger, and you'll see what to do.

I usually just google and it usually tells me how to disable " Microsoft messenger" and the like.

It shows where to go in steps, and how and what to do. Its usually necessary to check off to disable, or delete the offending line.

Just start messenger, click tools, options, uncheck "Start messenger when Windows starts," and "Allow messenger to run in the background." I think that will pretty much take care of it.
