How to disable mouse features in Windows XP?

My work mouse is a microsoft optical mouse. It has 2 side buttons and it's too sensitive. When I'm looking at websites and clicking, sometimes I will click the side button and it will make my browser go back a page or forward.

I do not have the ms mouse software. It's just using generic mouse drivers. Is there a way to disable these features in windows xp? Also, I would like to disable the scrolling feature when I press down on the scroll wheel. They may be useful features, but the buttons are too sensitive and it actives when I don't want it to.
