How to DISABLE COMPATABILITY filter in VISTA???

I have VISTA HOME BASIC on a DUAL CORE TOSHIBA laptop. How do I TURN OFF the incompability god which disallows incompatible software drivers (e.g. I cant install ZONE ALARM PRO ver 6.1 BECAUSE VISTA WONT LET ME? is there any way to DISABLE this piece of crap filter? I cant afford to go out and buy all brand new software because this OS doesn't like what Ive got now and which worked perfectly fine in XP Pro!

Thanks!

Thats because the version of zone alarm you have is incompatible with vista! Even if you could hack it to install, it wouldn't work properly. Most old versions of system utilities like firewalls, antiviruses etc are not going to work, period.

I like Zonealarm's alerts for outgoing traffic by program, just a quick perusal doesn't look like Vista firewall does that by default ?

How complicated is it to create rules to accomplish the same thing ?

If you can't afford to buy new software, why would you buy vista? 😕

Agree. Also, why would you buy a new OS (or a new computer with the new OS) without checking hardware and software compatibility?

The good news is the firewall in Vista is a good one, and the link posted by John is helpful.

some computers come with Vista now.

And they generally come with a whole host of software to suit your every need and desire (or an option for XP 😉).
