How to direct a lucid dream without waking up?

In the morning if/when I have a lucid dream I find that I can control the dream pretty well, but if I exert too much control I wake up. It's like the more aware of the dream I am, the harder it is to maintain my lucid dream state.

Anyone here good at lucid dreaming? How can I control the dream without increasing my 'waking brain activity' so much that I wake up? No drugs.

So far I've found that the best way is to just briefly nudge the dream in the direction I want it to go and then 'let go'. Usually the dream will begin to stray after a while. If I do it in too quick of a succession though I wake up.

:awe:

I am pretty in control of most of my dreams. Occasionally (but rarely nowadays) I'd also get those so-called "night-terrors." I am one of the few people who love these, and try to prolong them as long as possible. I've turned these night terrors into all sorts of random ass scenarios. lol

It's possible to control dreams? All I know is that the dream I had last night was pretty awesome. I had a house on the beach.

Thanks for the link Syringer!

Finally, once you’re in the dream, don’t get overexcited: don’t get in awe with your newfound powers or with what you plan to do in your Lucid Dream. If you do get too excited, you will probably wake up.
Not getting excited is difficult when you're banging Kate Beckinsale :whiste:

What I'd like to know is if there's a way to 'strengthen' the lucid dream so that I can do more random stuff without waking up so easily?

Don't know about night terrors (which is some serious shit if I read that wiki article correctly), but I do love turning 'wannabe nightmares' into the most fucked up scenarios possible. Usually diving straight into the horrors that I'm facing and enjoying the hell out of it :D

Very much so, yes. The only dreams I ever remember anymore are lucid dreams. So from my point of view I'm always controlling my dreams (which isn't the case of course).

I get them on very rare occasion and find the same thing - the more control I exert, the more likely I am to wake up. It doesn't happen often enough for me to practice, unfortunately. One day, Rikki Lake... One day.

I sometimes become conscious when my body goes in to sleep paralysis. The first few times I had this happen, it scared the hell out of me. I had to try hard to wake myself up, which was really freaky. Now, I enjoy it and can think up dream scenarios to jump into. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, I really enjoy it. A few nights ago, I had the ability to generate a computer rendering of any car I wanted, which then became real - like the show Automan. It was great driving a Veyron with Catherine Zeta Jones by my side ;)

I remember in HS I had this lucid dream where I was about to sleep with a girl.

At the same time in reality, I heard my dad coming upstairs to wake me up. In the dream, I was like "NOOOOOO WTF DAD, NO!!!"

He woke me up and I raged on him. "WHY ARE YOU WAKING ME UP ON A SATURDAY MORNING!?!?!"

Wasn't this the subject of American Dad a couple of weeks ago? Everytime Steve saw a red ball, he knew it was a dream and started doing crazy stuff. Then his sister and the fish started screwing with him by throwing a red ball in the middle of the living room and acting crazy.

Ooooh, kinda like the movie "The Good Night"? Not a great movie, but I had no idea people try to control their dreams like that. Nifty stuff.

Yes! Where you are having what "feels" like a nightmare, except you can completely control it. So you're sitting at a table sipping tea and reading a newspaper, but somehow you're very nervous about it and are probably sweating in your bed IRL.
