How to determine if a recent tv show on Netflix is in 4k and HDR ?

What kind of TV will you be watching this HDR material on? if it isn't a set that produces a high quality picture that can reproduce the colors accurately, it may not really matter...

Almost every new TV launched comes with basic support of HDR. Unfortunately, basic support simply means that the TV can accept HDR metadata and not necessarily that it will display the HDR content as intended. To reproduce HDR content accurately, TVs must be able to get brighter and display more saturated colors than before

Check the model at rtings.com to see how good of picture it has..

1080p is good enough for me besides I don't have a 4k set.

This is what I call the Blu-Ray theory:

Technology makes huge leaps when something is new, and gradually gets less and less accepted as all the low-hanging fruit gets used up.

VHS- allowed viewing and recording video. Poor quality, but popular
DVD- Greatly improved VHS quality. Very popular
HD DVDs- Lifelike video quality. Very popular
Blu-Ray- Just a bit better than 1080p on common TVs (you really need a huge TV to see a difference). Kinda "meh" market response.
Streaming- Most people stream in 1080p as it's "good enough".

Back on topic, a lot of LG and Visio tv's actually say "HDR" at the top when that kind of content plays.

I just got a 4K HDR set a couple weeks ago, and when I watch some 4K HDR content on it, it's just stunning. The texture and detail on things, reflections on objects...

This is what I call the Blu-Ray theory:

Our LED HDTV 1080p is a perfect example of this, it has 3D which we have never used. It was all the rage years ago but you never hear about it anymore. Besides 99% of our content is cable/Tivo/streaming with 1% redbox DVDs.

this part of the comment brings back flashbacks of the "format war" where there were literally life and death discussions about which was better (both here and in the AVS Forums)...

Not sure how you could say HD DVD was very popular but blu ray was 'meh' when blu ray ultimately won out. I still remember the day Warner Brothers announced they were going blu ray only which was the death knell for HD DVD.

I forgot that "HD DVD" was an actual format. I meant when DVD's started being sold in 1080p format (they originally used 720p or even 480p). Sorry about that.

Yeah, 3D was kinda like the smart watch- they're out of ideas so they're trying to make an answer to a question nobody asked. Curved TVs are going that same route.

yeah, that confused me, too. i was like...wutt? It's the exact same thing, only HD-DVD lost out to BD. I actually had both, briefly (HD-DVD players and content fire sale week...pretty much when those stakeholders threw in the towel).

also, when did DVD's go to 1080p? ...by that you essentially mean BD and HD-DVD, right? IIRC, DVD max resolution never went above 560 or something (in PAL; max is 480p for NTSC?). DVD never did 720P

I'm definitely not that interested in 4K. I have a cheapo 4K set, but the few times I have used any of that content, I didn't see a real difference, like what BD brought compared to DVD. I guess if I had a 200" screen or something, it would be great, but I already have great color depth and all that stuff. Hell....I way prefer my old 42" 720p plasma to this value 55" 4K that I now have. (I would have kept the plasma, but I just didn't want to move it across the country. :\)

I wonder if it's a viewing distance thing, or just a cheap 4K TV thing? They had lower priced 4K sets when I bought my last 1080P TV a few years ago, but I was skeptical of their quality at that price point (I didn't buy a cheap one this time either, and I'm sitting 9' from a 75" screen)
The Witcher 3 looks damn good at 1440P on it.

A "HDR" usually appears on the upper right corner of the screen when playback of the stream starts.
Result when I search 4K HDR with the Netflix app on a PC.

Photos I took of my 55" Samsung UN55NU7400 (curved) using the built in Netflix app. Internet access is with an Ethernet cable.
