I downloaded this program called Virtuagirl_brianabanks_full off of kazza on march 31
and when i try to delete it, it gives me "Virtuagirl_brianabanks_full: Access is denied"

Its an application and when i doulble-click it nothing happens.

Just recently my computer has been locking up for no reason.

Things that happen before the lockup are the cd/rw drive acts like its trying to detect a disc when there is no disk in. When i turned auto detect disc off briana_banks_full came up and gave me error messages. Right after that i pressed ctrl-alt-delete and it said "explorer (not responding)". Then my computer locks up, other times it locks up after the computers just been siiting idle after 2 hours. I've never had any probblems prior to this.

The OS is windows98SE

Is this problem from the brianbanks program?

Even if it turns out not to be how do i delete it?

1.) Make sure your virus definitions are up to date and run a system scan with your virus scanner
2.) Make sure AdAware is up to date and run that on your system
3.) If neither of the above work, try booting into safe mode and see if the file deletes then
4.) If none of the above work, format and learn from your mistake ;)

Yeah I have had a problem with deleting files downloaded on kazaa before...generally occurs with ones with ridiculously long names and funny symbols....it's actually a kind of poor mans virus, it's almost impossible to get rid of it and people keep downloading it from you so it spreads!

But since you are getting other weird things going on, there is a slight chance it could be more sinister....There was a another work around with deleting involving writing it to CD or something along those lines, hopefully a member who knows will stroll in here with the info!

If that fails, like RyanVM says....it's format time....or just leave the file and don't touch it I suppose!

EDIT: Welcome to wonderful world of Anandtech.

You shouldn't be able to get viruses just downloading actual pictures and movies. Sometimes people, will purposely rename an executable file to look like a picture file though: picture.jpg.exe. Just check the file names of what you're downloading and make sure that it's nothing suspicious.

Also, you probably couldn't delete it in Normal mode because it was run at start up. You can disable it from loading at start up by going to Start->Run and typing msconfig. There's a list of all the programs that are loaded at start up.
