how to delete shortcut to uninstalled program

Hi, a very simple question. I uninstalled a game, but forgot to remove the shortcut from the desktop before I uninstalled it. Now it says the file cannot be found and will not let me remove the shortcut. Is there a way to remove a shortcut to a file that no longer exists?? I don't want to reinstall the game just so I can remove the shortcut.

BTW, is not this a really stupid way to program. Shouldn't the shortcut be uninstalled when the program itself is uninstalled, instead of making it difficult to remove the shortcut??

You should just be able to select the iconic shortcut from the desktop and press the delete key.

If that does not work, then ensure that the shortcut link is not write protected.

Final option would be to boot into safe mode and repeat the attempt.

Many companies either use a third party solutions for install/uninstall or do not expect that people will want to remove their package. Where shortcuts are not actually part of the package but an assistance to the user, they can be overlooked.

First, make sure you have delete rights on the shortcut you are trying to delete.

Right click on the shortcut, and then select DELETE.
