How to Delete "Favorites" Folder in Win9X & ME?

I have three systems, and have spent a lot of time reorganizing my "Favorites" Menu. I can export or import that list to the the other systems, but that adds it on the the already extensive list. I would first like to delete ALL entries on the other systems, then Import the edited one so they are all alike.

But, I can find no way to "Select All" the Favorites listings for a one time deletion. I did it, but a real PITA one entry at a time. 🙁

Anyone know a shortcut to that procedure, i.e., wholesale Favorites deletions? 🙂

I would send the copy of "My Favorites" that I wanted to install, to the desktop, or my documents folder, or just about anywhere except where it is supposed to go. Then use explorer and navigate to C/windows/favorites and delete the old favorites folder. Then just copy and paste the new favorites folder in its place. I can't think of any shorter or magic procedure to get it done.

You have to learn more about files and sub-directories and how they're organized. Welcome to the world that Microsoft wants to hide from you so that they can control your computer the way they want to.

OK . . . there is very little I don't know about "folders and sub-folders,' . . . . been doing that since they were directories and sub-directories in DOS 2.0. The problem is, what is the file/folder name, and where is it? I did a search and it found that, but would not let me delete the folder because it was "system essential." If knew the exact name and location I would exit to DOS and do it the old fashioned way. 🙂

OK . . . the clues gave me the solution. The first step was to "export" the Favorites folder and all sub-folders to a C:\TEMP location. That gave me a backup copy.

Then I exited Windows and booted to the DOS prompt (DOS Boot Disk w/o Windows being loaded.) I then used good old XTRee Gold to delete all of the contents of the folder leaving the empty C:\WINDOWS\FOLDER in place.

I then opened IE 6, and imported the folder file from C:\TEMP and we were good to go.

But, that still leaves the inability to select multiple Favorites files a la Windows standard procedure (Cntrl + Select) and then act on them together. DHawk's, method is OK too. But multiple selectio of URLs or "Select All" does not work. Yep! Another Microsoft effort to keep the user from controlling his own system. 😀
