How to delete dead "add/remove programs" listings?

In Win XP Pro, I have one or two programs listed in the Add/Remove programs list that are no longer
on my system, but they remain on the list, and nothing I've tried will get rid of them. I suspect I may
have accidentally deleted the program directory at an earlier time instead of using the uninstall.

In any case, I'm stuck with bogus listings there. I probably could reinstall the program and then
uninstall it, but that's a pain. Is there any way to just get rid of those listings?

In the old version of TweakUI, back in the Win98 days, it had an option that let you delete these
entries, but I can't find it in the XP TweakUI.

open the registry and go to \hkey_local_machine\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall. the listings should be there.
