Hi all!

I just would like to know how can I (if possible, of course) to define the order of my favorite sites in internet explorer 6.0...

Let me try to explain better: I have more than one thousand of favorite sites listed in the net browser (IE 6.0) of my main PC. I need to transfer these data (of fav. sites) to my another PC, and I would like to do it, KEEPING THE SAME ORDER (which was defined by me) that these sites are currently listed in my main PC... It seems that, when I copy these kind of files from one PC to another, the Windows, in an automatic way, put all them in an alphabetic order (from A to Z); but this is not, necessarily, the order that I wish to transfer... I would like to avoid the hard work of to have to define, again, site by site, the order that I wish...

I have Win XP PRO SP1 and Internet Explorer 6.0

Well, that's it...

Any hint / information will be very appreciated!

Thanks in advance for any help!

In IE6 what I do is make a bunch of folders for all the categories of my bookmarks
The individual bookmarks are then arranged in the order I prefer

However, whenever you export the bookmarks to another browser, it is usually
the browser you import to that sets them back in aphabetical order

I have not yet found a definite way to export / import them without this occuring

You might try exporting as a .csv type file if IE6 will let you .. This may retain the order

IE saves bookmarks as individual .url files in your Favorites folder. It uses the typical Arrange order of Explorer. Arranging them in IE itself really doesn't matter, and I doubt there's any way to preserve it unless you can figure out which IE file remembers what way you have arranged things. IE's handling of bookmarks is awful.

I would like to know this as well. I have so many entries that I depend on the approximate order in which I added them. By default the entries are in date added order earliest first and you can manually move URL selections up and down.

Once you export and import to another system or after a clean install the order is Alphabetical. What I do is open the favorites folder in windows explorer and then view the entries by date modified.

I have not found a way to change default order to date modified to IE. Just drag some entries manually if I do need them at the top.

Thanks for your replies, bruceb, P0ldy & elkinm !

Well, it seems that there isn't any way of to preserve the previous order of the sites, when we copy the files from one PC to other... Its a sad news...

Dragging each .HTM file to previous order would (or WILL) be a disaster; lots of annoying work!! But if there is no option...

I think I will try to create folders for some specific matters; this tip can be a reasonable solution to minimize the trouble...

Again, txs a lot for your attention, buddies!!
