How to deal with verbose people

Don't get me wrong, I can talk. I can talk a lot.

My problem is when people talk and talk and it just feels like they're talking to hear their own voice. People that say something in 100 words when 5 would have been fine. People that will talk until they get their way. As if talking is going to wear you down.

I simply can't stand it. It does wear me down. It also takes away from productive work time.

I lost my cool at work today. I finally told this guy "enough" and to stop talking. Big fight ensued.

*sigh*

Hold up your hand and say "Excuse me, I just remembered something. You're boring and I have legs." Then walk away. Works everytime.

So that's what you meant by that... 🙁

Well he was pissed that I told him to be quiet. He thought I was being pissy, didn't have a sense of humor, and couldn't understand what the big deal is the day before a holiday. I was so flustered I could barely talk at that point. We fought it out for about 45 minutes after that. Too boring to tell.

So instead of listening to him for the remaining few minutes, you stretched your interaction with him into a 45+ minute ordeal?

I was thinking the same thing but I felt like I had to try to settle the dispute rather than let it linger over the holiday. That was my choice.

It was very frustrating.

LOL last night I was sitting down to watch Entourage about 10 minutes before it came on and my room mate was telling me about his fishing trip this weekend. I figure, yeah he should be done by the time Entourage is on. Well technically he was, he just kept re-iterating everything that he'd already said. I tried subtle hints to get him to shut up like turning up the volume, and finally I just had to tell him to STFU. I mean you can only talk so much about a fishing trip that yielded no fish...

I don't laugh out loud at too many posts, but this one did it. 🙂

How about people who start talking to you and then walk away, back turned to you, voice barely audible, still talking to you about something. OR how about people who talk to you while you are obviously preoccupied, or become preoccupied and keep talking to you as if you were listening attentively.

..their just trying to tell ya how they feeeeel. Aren't you a sensitive touchy feely metro man??
