My sister got MCI long distance on June. The call per minute to Chile at that time was 17 cents. On August I called to cancel the service.
Then last week my sister got a bill from MCI where they are charging 3.51 dollars per minute to Chile!! The calls are dated in Sept. My sister called to asked and the CSR said that we authorized the reconnection during that month. The bill is 200 bucks and we recognized all the numbers that suppously we call. This is really odd since we usually use 1016868 for long distance calls.
Now my questions are:

1- We don't remember authorizing a reconnection since we hate MCI. Can I ask them for the recorded phone call where me or my sister authorized this?
2- Can I complain to the BBB that 3.51 dollars per minute is just insane?

put all in writing, talk to CS and ask how to contest the charges.

$3.51 / min? why would anything cost that much/?

It is possible that you were "slammed". Some companies will switch you without permission. If that's the case, you probably won't be held liable for the cost of the calls. Just contact CS and tell them that you had their service cancelled in August, and don't plan on paying for calls made after that.

As was mentioned MCI probably slamed you bac onto their plan. Call your LOCAL phone company and talk to their division that handles long distance switches and find out when MCI slammed you then notify the phone company that you were slammed. They will then redisconnect MCI and bill them for it. Next you should contact MCI tell them you were slammed by them and unless they lower the charges to a reasonable amount (what you got previously) then you will not pay the bill.

Just how I would handle it.
